Spanish lifestyle in Ribadesella is much more relaxing compared to those of us who live in the crowded and fast paced cities, that's not to say, however, that the Spanish don’t have any fun.
One of the simplest things the people do to relax is go for walks along the seaside promenades, or up the mountain to the monastery to enjoy the view of the town and the sea.
Many people also enjoy having a morning coffee or having some lunch at one of the numerous cafes and bars scattered across the town and the seafront.
But Ribadesella isn’t all about relaxing, there are also exciting events and parties that seem to completely change the atmosphere of the town. For example after the Descenso del Sella canoe race there is a huge festival held in the town where many people gather to enjoy drinks and the live music which is performed in the town square.
Besides the Descenso del Sella there are other religious festivals that take place in Ribadesella, for example, during Semana Santa (Easter week) processions are carried out daily and a horse race is held on the beach.
During the processions statues of Jesus and the Virgin Mary are paraded around the town, followed by dancers and musicians, performing traditional music and dance.
