Delicious Spanish Cuisine Waiting For You

Ribadesella is located in the region of Asturias so you will be able to see some of the typical northern spanish dishes such as the Fabada Asturiana, a stew composed of Asturian beans and various smoked meats.

Since Ribadesella is a coastal town you can also expect to find a wide variety of seafoods available in the cafes and restaurants. One such dish is the sea urchin, a regional delicacy (Jan to Mar) that is eaten uncooked.

If all you fancy is a small snack for lunch, then you're in luck as the bars and cafes have many options for you. One of the popular choices for lunch are pinchos. Pinchos are like a form of Tapas (small snacks served at bars), they are pieces of bread topped with, for example, ham or fish, and held together with a wooden stick. They also make for a good breakfast after your morning stroll.

As for popular drinks, something you will notice almost immediately when you visit Ribadesella is the cider. This is because of the odd way of pouring it, where the waiter holds the bottle high in the air with one hand and pours the cider into your glass which he holds down low in their other hand. This method is known as the escanciar and is considered necessary to produce the best flavour.

The cider is produced locally in distilleries using locally grown apples. If it interests you, many of the distilleries offer tours through the process of creating the cider with tasting sessions at the end.
